Blog Post
My blog post assignment on how to be a freshman in college.
Target audience: 18 or 19 yr. olds, all genders, freshman, first-year students
Major essentials that college freshman need for their dorm!
Isabella D’Onofrio
Going into freshman year of college, I wish I would’ve known the items I would need the most. Now I know exactly what every college freshman must have for living in the dorms!
Rushing to buy all the necessary items before move-in day can be really stressful. That’s why with the holidays coming up, it is time to add these items to your Christmas list! This way you’ll have them before you move into college!
Lanyards
These are the new wallets for college students. You can find a lanyard with a style and print you really like and then keep all your small items safe inside. You can hold it or keep it around your neck, so it is an easy grab when you need your debit card or key.

“It is a good thing to have because they can keep your cards, student id, and dorm key all together so you feel organized.”
Robert Fornataro, freshman Broadcast Reporting and Sports Communication major

Mini Fridge
This may seem like an obvious item for your dorm, but it still needs to be brought up. Mini fridges are crucial for food and drinks in your dorm. And the best thing about them is you can buy a decent size for a very reasonable price.

“If I didn’t have my fridge, I don’t know what I would do. I can keep anything in there to keep it fresh including leftovers and drinks,” Fornataro said.

10ft Extension Cord
In your first-year dorm, you will not have enough outlets on the walls for you to plug everything into. This is why long extension cords will be your best friends. Electronics, food appliances, and chargers are examples of some things you will need to plug in to outlets, and they are true life savers.

Over the Door Organizer
Whether you have a bathroom you want to keep tidy or need an extra place to keep your shoes, these organizers will help your dorm look super clean and give you more space. There are many over the door organizers you can choose from, but I highly recommend the ones with shelves or pockets.

Cordless Vacuum
Most freshman dorms do not have a lot of space so floors can get dirty extremely quickly. This is why having a small cordless vacuum is useful for cleaning up little messes. You can also you it to clean up crumbs from your desk, bed, or other furniture!
